The new synthetic turf field is the anchor of the project. This is not the synthetic turf of the past. The new generation of synthetic sports turf surfaces are premium in-filled artificial turf products that provide lasting durability with the look, feel and playability of natural grass. These new systems are composed of soft, non-abrasive pile fibers tufted through a dimensionally stable and water permeable backing and in-filled with a cushioning aggregate. These systems deliver a safe, sure-footed and consistent surface designed to maximize the end users performance and comfort. Around the new field, will be the existing all-weather running track surface, with a total of 8 lanes. In addition, new pole vault, long jump and high jump events will also be provided inside the track at the ends of the field, and located on new all-weather latex sports surfacing system. Grandstands on the home side will be sized to accommodate 3,154 spectators, with 624 of those seats in a special, reserved section located above the top row of general admission seats, giving the reserved seating spectators a truly unique viewpoint from any other seat in the facility. Existing grandstands on the visitors’ side will accommodate 1,365 spectators in traditional grandstand seating. New grandstands will be constructed to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. In addition, permanent seating is being planned at the east side of the field, inside the track, to accommodate the Avon Lake Marching Shoremen band. A new press box topping out the home grandstands will provide space for home and visiting team coaching staffs, and game management in 3 individual areas, and provide for covered event filming areas. In an effort to provide convenient facilities to all spectators, a new visitors building will be constructed at the southwest corner of the facility. This facility will house public toilets and a concessions stand for the visiting spectators. New sports lighting and sound systems will also be included in the project. The lighting system is being designed to provide even, consistent light levels across the entire performance surface, along with emergency lighting capabilities in the unlikely event there is a loss of power. Likewise, spectators in the home stands, visitors’ stands and the band seating areas will all be able to hear a clear, consistent announcer from the main press box location. Special announcing capabilities for various events will be available for band events, parent’s night activities and other performances. Once the project is complete, the new facility should serve the students and the Avon Lake community for many years to come and be on the leading edge of high school stadium performance venues across the state of Ohio. |
